Our story

From a tray to a salad, in a week and a half

Microgreens are the tiny first leaves of vegetables and herbs — packed with fresh flavour, and grown in days, not months. Sill & Seed kits give you everything: a reuseable tray, a bag of seed, and a coir mat that holds the moisture while the roots grow. Set it on a bright windowsill, water it lightly, and in about ten days you snip a handful of peppery or tender greens for a salad, a sandwich or a garnish. It is a small, satisfying crop that keeps giving — harvest, water, and grow another tray.

How it's made

The coir mat is made from the husk of a coconut, compressed into a flat, absorbent pad. The seed is chosen for quick, reliable germination on a windowsill. The tray is a reuseable, food-safe container moulded to hold the mat flat and drain well.

How to use it

Soak the coir mat, lay it in the tray, sprinkle the seed evenly over it, and press it down gently. Keep it moist but not wet, on a bright windowsill, and harvest with scissors in about ten days. Rinse the tray and start the next crop.

Good to know

How many times can I use the tray?

Many times. Rinse the tray after each crop and reuse it with a fresh coir mat and seed. The kit is designed to keep growing, not to be thrown away.

What if my seeds do not sprout?

The seeds are fresh and chosen for reliable germination, so nearly all sprout. If the tray is too dry or too wet, germination slows — keep the coir moist but not soaking, and give it a little more time.

Is this a health or medical product?

No. It is a home-growing kit for fresh greens. It is not a medicine and not intended to address any condition — the greens are just for eating.

Do I need a special light?

No. A bright windowsill is enough for most microgreens. If your window is north-facing or the days are short, a little extra light or a longer time to grow gives the same result.

What is the coir mat for?

It is a mat made from coconut husk that holds moisture evenly for the roots. You soak it, lay it in the tray, sow the seed on top and keep it lightly moist — no soil needed.

How long until I can harvest?

Most microgreens are ready in about ten days from sowing. When the first true leaves appear and the shoots stand a few centimetres tall, snip them with scissors just above the coir.
